Lady's slipper

Paphiopedilum

DifficultyModerate
SeasonWinter–spring
PottedA single bloom lasts 1-2 months

Meaning

Hard to predict, dignity

There's a little "slipper" in the middle of the flower. One bloom can last a month or two.

Safe for cats and dogs. Any plant can still upset a pet’s stomach if they eat a lot, so keep it out of reach.

Light

Indirect light. It takes more shade than a moth orchid.

Water

Keep the mix slightly moist

Temperature

15-28°C

Feed

Every 2 weeks while it's growing, with a weak orchid fertilizer

Do this when you get home

  1. Put it somewhere bright, out of the sun
  2. Lady's slippers have no pseudobulb to store water. Don't let the mix dry out completely.

Day to day

  • Water along the rim. Don't pour it into the crown.
  • It likes humid air. Mist around it often.

Common questions

The crown turned black and rotted?
