Bush lily

DifficultyModerate
SeasonWinter–spring
PottedBlooms for about 1 month

Meaning

Dignity, the manner of a gentleman, good fortune

It hates wet feet and harsh sun. In winter it needs a chill before it will bloom.

The whole plant is poisonous (it contains lycorine), especially the roots. Don't let pets or children chew on it.

Light

Bright, indirect light. No harsh sun.

Water

Water when it dries, and keep it on the dry side

Temperature

15-25°C. In winter it needs a cool spell around 10°C.

Feed

Once a month in spring and fall

Do this when you get home

  1. Put it by a bright indoor window. In summer, keep it out of direct sun.
  2. The roots are fleshy. Water when the soil is dry. It hates sitting in water.

Day to day

  • Now and then turn the pot 180°. The leaves grow more even and paired that way.
  • Wipe dust off the leaves with a damp cloth
  • Don't pour water into the crown of the leaves

Common questions

The flower stalk never came up, and it bloomed down in the leaves?

Usually the winter was too warm, so it never got a cool period, or the day-night swing was too small, or it was short on food. While the bud is forming, give it a bigger temperature swing, a bit more warm water, and some phosphorus and potassium.

The leaves are yellow?

Old leaves at the bottom yellowing is normal. New leaves turning yellow is usually too much water and rotten roots.
