15-28°C
While it's growing, feed lightly and often
Do this when you get home
- Don't keep moving it. Gardenias are sensitive to a change of place.
- Put it by a bright window with some air
- Keep the soil slightly moist. Don't let it dry out completely.
Day to day
- It likes acid soil. If you use tap water, let it sit a day first. Once a month, water with diluted iron sulfate.
- When the air is dry, mist around the leaves (not on the buds)
- After the flowers fade, cut off the spent blooms
Common questions
The leaves are yellow?
Most often the soil is too alkaline and short on iron. It can also be root rot from too much water. Check whether the soil has been sitting wet, then add an acid fertilizer.
The buds dropped before they opened?
Usually a move, soil that swings from dry to wet, or air that's too dry. Once it's home, leave it in one spot and keep the soil evenly moist.
