Extremely toxic to cats! Petals, leaves, pollen, even the vase water can cause kidney failure. If you have a cat, don't buy these.
Bright, indirect light
Change the water every 2-3 days
15-25°C
Flower food is fine
Do this when you get home
- Cut the stems on a slant, 2-3 cm, and strip leaves that would sit underwater
- Stand them in clean water, about 10 cm deep is enough
- Closed buds are normal. They open one by one over 2-5 days.
Day to day
- As soon as a flower opens, pinch off the anthers (the orange pollen sacs) with a tissue. That keeps pollen off clothes and the bloom lasts longer.
- Change the water every 2-3 days and recut the stems
- Pull off spent blooms so the buds behind them get the energy
- Oriental lilies are strongly scented. In a bedroom, set them a bit farther away.

Common questions
Pollen got on my clothes. What now?
Don't rub it with your hand or a wet cloth. Lift it off gently with tape, or leave it in the sun and let it fade.
The lowest bud never opens?
Move it somewhere warm and bright, and switch to warm water. Buds that are tiny and still green sometimes never open. That's normal.
