Meaning

Luck right overhead, a turn in fortune

A "cactus" that flowers in winter. Once it has buds, don't move it.

Safe for cats and dogs. Any plant can still upset a pet’s stomach if they eat a lot, so keep it out of reach.

Light

Bright, indirect light

Water

Water when it dries

Temperature

15-25°C, not below 5°C

Feed

Once a month while it's growing

Do this when you get home

  1. Once it has buds, leave it facing the same way. Turning it drops buds easily.
  2. Water when the soil surface is dry

Day to day

  • While it's blooming, keep the soil slightly moist
  • After the flowers fade, pinch off the top one or two segments. More branches come, and next year there are more flowers.
  • In fall it needs short days to set buds. At night, don't leave it in a room with the lights on.

Common questions

The buds dropped?

Usual causes: moving or turning it, a big temperature swing, or soil that swings from dry to wet.

The segments are soft and wrinkled?

It may be too dry, or the roots may have rotted. Feel the soil first, dry or wet, then decide.
