Safe for cats and dogs. Any plant can still upset a pet’s stomach if they eat a lot, so keep it out of reach.
Light
Full sun, at least 6 hours a day
Water
Keep the water a few centimeters over the mud
Temperature
20-35°C
Feed
While it's growing, tuck a little slow-release fertilizer into the mud
Do this when you get home
- Put it on the sunniest balcony, or outside. Without enough sun it won't flower.
- Keep the water a few centimeters over the mud. Top it up as it evaporates.
Day to day
- In summer the water evaporates fast. Check the level every day, and change some of the water about once a week so it doesn't smell.
- A flower lasts three or four days, then fades. Cut the stem off after it goes.
- In winter the leaves die back. That's dormancy. Keep the mud moist and don't let it freeze. It sprouts again in spring.
Common questions
Lots of leaves, no flowers?
Not enough light is the main reason. It needs 6 hours of sun a day or more.
