Meaning

Good news, a messenger, faith

Blue-violet, like a butterfly. The vase life is short, so buds are the better buy.

Toxic to cats and dogs (especially the rhizome). Eating it causes vomiting and diarrhea.

Change the water every day

Temperature

10-20°C

Not needed

Do this when you get home

  1. Buy buds that are just showing color. They'll open in a day or two at home.
  2. Cut the stems on a slant, 2 cm, and stand them in clean water

Day to day

  • Change the water every day and recut the stems
  • Each stem usually has two buds. When the first fades, pull it off. The second still opens.

Common questions

Why do they open so fast and fade so fast?

A single iris bloom is short-lived. Somewhere cool, with fresh water often, buys you a couple more days.
