Daphne

DifficultyNeeds care
SeasonWinter–spring (Lunar New Year season)
PottedBlooms for 1-2 months

Meaning

A good omen, good fortune

Gold-edged leaves, and a strong scent when it flowers. Fussy, and it hates wet feet.

The whole plant is poisonous (especially the fruit). People, cats, and dogs should not eat it.

Light

Bright, indirect light. No harsh sun.

Water

Water when it dries. Drier is safer than wetter.

Temperature

10-25°C. It hates heat.

Feed

Once after flowering

Do this when you get home

  1. Put it somewhere cool, bright, and airy
  2. Daphne roots are fleshy and really hate sitting wet. Water only when the soil is dry.

Day to day

  • It hates summer heat. Put it somewhere cool and airy, and water less.
  • It likes slightly acid soil
  • After the flowers fade, cut off the spent blooms

Common questions

The leaves suddenly yellowed and the whole plant wilted?

Usually too much water and rotten roots. Daphne hates wet feet most of all. Hold back water as soon as you notice.
