Meaning

An ideal love, courtesy, something lovely

Big, bright flowers and evergreen leaves. It likes acid, hates heat, and drops buds easily.

Safe for cats and dogs. Any plant can still upset a pet’s stomach if they eat a lot, so keep it out of reach.

Light

Bright, indirect light. Shade it in summer.

Water

Keep it slightly moist. Don't let water sit.

Temperature

10-25°C. It hates high heat.

Feed

After flowering, an acid fertilizer

Do this when you get home

  1. Put it somewhere cool and bright. Don't keep moving it, or the buds drop.
  2. When the soil surface is dry, water it through. Don't let it dry out, and don't let it sit wet.

Day to day

  • It likes acid soil. Once a month, water with diluted iron sulfate.
  • If one tip has too many buds, leave one or two big ones and pinch the rest. The ones you keep open better.
  • It hates summer heat. Put it somewhere cool and airy.

What the colors mean

  • Red camelliaBorn lovely, an ideal love
  • Pink camelliaGentleness, getting through a hard time
  • White camelliaA pure heart, something lovely

* Color meanings are popular sayings. The thought matters more.

Common questions

The buds dropped before they opened?

Usual causes: moving it, soil that swings from dry to wet, too much heat, or air that's too dry. Leave it in one place and keep it moist.

The leaves are yellow?

Usually the soil is too alkaline, or you're watering too much. Give it some acid water and ease up on watering.
