Meaning

Don't touch me, a quick temper

The flower children used to dye their nails. Touch a ripe pod and the seeds fly.

Safe for cats and dogs. Any plant can still upset a pet’s stomach if they eat a lot, so keep it out of reach.

Light

Plenty of sun

Water

Keep it moist

Temperature

18-30°C

Feed

Every 2 weeks in bloom

Do this when you get home

  1. Put it on a sunny balcony
  2. The stems and leaves are juicy and like moisture. Water when the soil is dry.

Day to day

  • A ripe pod pops and throws its seeds at a touch. You can save them and sow again next year.
  • It's an annual. When the weather cools in fall, it fades.

Common questions

Can it really dye nails?

Yes. Crush the petals, mix in a little alum, and press it on the nail. That's the old "nail flower."
