Toxic to cats and dogs. Don't let pets chew on it.
Likes sun. More sun, more flowers (shade it in summer).
Water thoroughly when bone-dry. Drier is safer than wetter.
15-25°C, not below 5°C
Once a month in bloom, with a weak flower fertilizer
Do this when you get home
- Put it on the sunniest windowsill in the house
- Water only when the soil is dry, usually every 5-7 days
Day to day
- Cut off spent flower clusters so new ones open
- The leaves are fleshy and very drought-tolerant. Too much water, and the roots rot.
- In summer heat it half-rests. Water less, and keep it out of harsh sun.
Common questions
It didn't bloom the second year?
Kalanchoe is a short-day plant. In fall it needs fewer than 12 hours of light a day to set buds. At night in autumn, don't leave it in a room with the lights on.
The stems grew long and skinny?
Not enough light, so it stretched. Move it somewhere sunnier and cut the long stems back.
