Corn plant

Dracaena

DifficultyVery easy
SeasonYear-round
FoliageA perennial

Meaning

Strength, good fortune, rising step by step

A cane with a few tufts of leaves. Shade-tolerant and easy.

Toxic to cats and dogs. Eating it causes vomiting and drooling.

Light

It takes shade. Bright, indirect light is best.

Water

Water when it dries, and keep it on the dry side

Temperature

18-30°C, not below 10°C

Feed

Once a month in spring and summer

Do this when you get home

  1. Put it somewhere bright indoors. If the light is too dim, the yellow stripes fade.
  2. Let the top half of the soil dry, then water. The base of the cane hates sitting wet.

Day to day

  • In winter, water less
  • If a tip yellows and crisps, just cut it off
  • The cane is an old stem that was cut and rooted. It won't grow taller. New shoots come from the top.

Common questions

The cane went soft and the bark wrinkled?

Too much water, and it rotted. Stop watering and check it. Cut off the rotten part.
